Andy Robertson’s future at Liverpool is under increasing scrutiny, with the Scotland international expected to “assess his options” when his contract expires this summer.

According to Football Insider, the long-serving left-back is open to a new challenge after seeing his role at Anfield diminish over the season.

Robertson, 31, is one of Liverpool’s most influential players of the modern era, but recent developments have seen his position within the team change.

The arrival of Milos Kerkes has changed the left-back pecking order, with head coach Arne Slott’s Robertson no longer considered the automatic first choice.

This decline in engagement is prompting some serious reflection as he approaches the final months of his contract.

Interest in January and Tottenham’s relentless monitoring

Robertson’s situation went under the radar during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur made a concerted effort to explore a move for the experienced defender, seeing him as an ideal addition to their last line.

According to reports, Spurs initially had hopes of signing him, but Liverpool were adamant that they would not allow him to leave midway through the season.

Despite this refusal, Tottenham are thought to have reviewed the situation on deadline day and carried out further investigation to understand whether Liverpool’s position had softened.

It wasn’t. Liverpool have made it clear that Robertson will not leave midway through the season, especially with the club still battling on multiple fronts.

It is no surprise that Liverpool rejected a sale in January, but the long-term situation appears to be more fluid.

Robertson’s minutes plummeted as Kerkes’ confidence grew and Slot introduced a system that required different position profiles.

The change was significant for a player used to being central to Liverpool’s identity.

Sources close to the situation say Robertson remains highly professional and respected within the dressing room, but is also realistic about the stage in his career.

Robertson’s contribution to Liverpool cannot be overstated. Since joining from Hull City, he has been a cornerstone of the club’s most successful era in recent decades.
