WNBA Icon Brittney Griner Delivers Exclusive and Unmatched Update

Brittney Griner has firmly secured her legacy as one of the WNBA’s all-time greats. Now 35, the seasoned player recently wrapped up her 12th WNBA season, her first with the Atlanta Dream after spending 11 years with the Phoenix Mercury, who drafted the 6-foot-9 center as the No. 1 overall pick in 2013.

Starting the 2025 season as a key starter for Atlanta, Griner transitioned to a bench role in the latter half—a first in her career. She posted career-low averages with 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks over 20.8 minutes per game. Off the court, Griner has been active during the WNBA offseason, currently playing her second season in Miami’s Unrivaled 3-on-3 League as part of the Vinyl Basketball Club, coached by Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon. Her teammates include WNBA stars Courtney Williams, Rhyne Howard, and Dearica Hamby.

Recently, Griner shared highlights from a close 74-71 victory over the Hibs Basketball Club, where she contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocks, marking a personal milestone of 300 career points in the Unrivaled league.

As the WNBA offseason continues, Griner remains an unrestricted free agent, open to negotiating a new contract with the Dream or potentially another team for the 2026 season. While the league has announced the upcoming season’s schedule, ongoing talks between the WNBA and players’ association over a new collective bargaining agreement leave the possibility of a lockout if no agreement is reached soon.

Fan Take: Brittney Griner’s evolving role and free agency status highlight the dynamic nature of even the most established WNBA stars’ careers. For fans and the league alike, her decisions and performance will continue to influence the sport’s growth and visibility in the coming years.
