Tottenham Hotspur are behind the scenes in pursuit of Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini this summer, with interest in Andy Robertson.

Avoiding relegation will be Roberto De Zerbi’s priority in the coming weeks, but signing Robertson could be second on his list. The Liverpool defender announced earlier this week that he would be leaving Anfield as a free agent, paving the way for the Lilywhites to finish the job they started in January.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Tottenham are in pole position to sign a left-back this summer and bring in a long-awaited leader.

There’s still a lot of work to do if the Spurs want to make the deal happen, but the early signs are certainly positive. Given that the groundwork has already been laid since January, the only obstacle standing in their way is likely to be survival concerns.

Even at age 32, Robertson’s contract makes sense. De Zerbi needs to oversee a summer of change in north London, and there are few better ways to start it than with a Premier League winner.

he had a great season.

However, Tottenham also have other transfer plans. Alongside Robertson, there are also reports that the Lilywhites are targeting the Serie A star.

Tottenham are working behind the scenes to sign Scalvini

According to Team Talk, Tottenham are currently working behind the scenes to sign Scalvini from Atalanta. The central defender has returned to his best following an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is attracting the attention of both North London and Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window.

It’s no surprise that 22-year-old Scalvini has attracted the attention of Tottenham. With the futures of club captain Cristian Romero and centre-back partner Micky van de Ven in doubt, Spurs could forge a new long-term partnership between Scalvini and the returning Luka Vuskovic.

With the experienced Robertson alongside them, Scalvini and Vusković could form the heartbeat of the De Zerbi era, and a much stronger one for that matter.

The Atalanta man, described as an “outstanding player” by talent scout Jacek Kulig in February, also has the ability to step into midfield and could end up killing two birds with one stone.

There would have been concerns about how Scalvini would return from a long-term injury, but he has since returned strong and firing on all cylinders. There is no downside to his possible addition.

If Tottenham are looking to rebuild their backline, starting Robertson and Scalvini would be a great first move.
