Celtic have made an offer to sign their new midfield star following the arrival of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

O’Neill ‘delighted’ with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s move

There is no doubt that the Bhoys will have a lot of work to do after the January transfer window, but the arrival of Oxlade-Chamberlain should definitely help Martin O’Neill’s side.

The veteran manager was delighted when he revealed the news that the former Liverpool midfielder was due to arrive in Scotland for a medical, but has now left.

The arrival of Oxlade-Chamberlain could spell bad news for Celtic at the moment.

He told reporters: “I thought he had a lot of options. I think there was also talk that Arsenal, where he trains, might take him on because of the possibility of injuries. So I’m glad he’s coming, he says.”

“So, I think he had a medical check (on Saturday) and everything is fine. I hope he signs. This kid is here to play and get into the team and get fit as quickly as possible. I think it’s great to have him here with the team, at least for the next few months.”

There will be question marks over his fitness, particularly regarding his injury history, but at his best Oxlade-Chamberlain would be a great addition at Celtic Park.

His arrival as a free agent could be a sign of things to come, with reports suggesting the Hoops have made an offer to sign another bargain player.

Celtic announce offer for Xaver Schlager

According to reports in Germany from the Daily Record, Celtic have opened an offer to sign Xaver Schlager from RB Leipzig. The German club have confirmed the midfielder will leave as a free agent at the end of the season, and the Scottish giants are keen to make the most of the opportunity.

“We spent a lot of time and effort through several meetings to persuade Xaver to extend his contract with us. However, we of course accept and respect his decision to pursue a new challenge, especially since the whole process was characterized by open and honest discussions.” (RB Leipzig)

As a free agent, the 28-year-old could be one of the bargains this season if Celtic secure his contract. The Austrian has often been at the center of praise in Germany, including from Leipzig’s former sporting director Christopher Wibel.

When Schlager first signed, he told reporters: “Ksavar Schlager is a tough-tackling, hard-running central midfielder who not only knows our playing style, but has played this way for many years. Kusavar will be a great addition for us both on and off the pitch.”
