Tottenham Hotspur’s mentality could get them relegated. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but there are deep-rooted issues with the team’s confidence and ability to overcome adversity on the pitch.

Parting ways with caretaker manager Igor Tudor was a difficult decision, but perhaps the right one as the Croatian only picked up one point in his 44-day spell against Liverpool at Anfield.

That aside, the 47-year-old has lost four times in the Premier League, with last week’s crushing defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest in north London being the crucial moment.

Tottenham are just one point out of the relegation zone, while Forest and West Ham United have improved recently. ENIC Group needs to choose their next head coach wisely.

Who are the Spurs considering to replace Tudor?

While it may seem pragmatic, the short-term appointment of Sean Dyche, who was Nottingham Forest manager until his sacking in early 2026, makes a lot of sense.

But if Tottenham want to flip a coin and choose a different kind of track, they could potentially hit the jackpot with one of football’s sharper tactical minds.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are considering appointing Roberto De Zerbi as soon as possible, despite the Italian manager waiting until the end of the season to choose his next club.

Manchester United are also interested, but Michael Carrick’s performance there means De Zerbi may not be available.

These claims have been backed up by a number of people, including talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who revealed that “efforts were made this week” to acquire De Zerbi.

If ENIC presents him with an attractive offer, he will be convinced to take charge now and could prove to be the hero that keeps Tottenham out of danger.

Why De Zerbi is the right choice for Spurs

At the moment, it is difficult to judge who is the best candidate to replace Tottenham’s vacant position. Certainly, Dyche is available and will jump at the chance to manage the Londoners. His experience with a team struggling in the relegation battle adds substance to ENIC’s interest.

However, Tottenham’s first-team squad has lost the slightest bit of confidence, and De Zerbi is not only an analytical genius, praised by journalist Dean Jones, but also a manager who embraces his players like family and creates strong bonds with them.

What’s more, the Italian is playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation, suggesting he could see some tactical fitness at Tottenham in the coming weeks. Of course, Dyche is by no means an avant-garde manager, but his systematic and methodical approach does not instill confidence in his players.

They need a player like De Zerbi, who is larger than life and has a possession-based style that is much closer to Ange Postecoglou’s energetic football than Thomas Frank’s struggling brand.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will take the slightly riskier route and appoint De Zerbi, but he will inspire confidence and could be just the right person to make a comeback late in the season. There is a reason why he is praised by Arne Slott as “one of the best managers in the world.”

His time at Brighton & Hove Albion was a successful one, helping the Seagulls move away from being habitual relegation fodder and instead challenge for a higher place.

De Zerbi could be the perfect player for Tottenham, having been hailed by manager Josep Guardiola for his “unique” style. He’s certainly not without his flaws, but he’s a strong character who doesn’t make excuses for players who are struggling.

leadership. experience. style. De Zerbi has gained a lot, but from Tottenham’s point of view, Dyche pales in comparison.
