Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has given his poignant thoughts on Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s 4-0 first half defeat to the Premier League champions in the FA Cup.

The Egyptian forward, who recently confirmed he will leave Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season, had a tough afternoon at the Etihad.

His distress worsened in the second half when he saw a penalty saved by James Trafford, but Hart pointed out that there were signs of a “broken” performance long before the final whistle.

Joe Hart says Mohamed Salah looked devastated

Speaking as a pundit for TNT Sport (via BBC Sport), Hart revealed he was shocked by Salah’s unusual body language as his team headed to the tunnel at half-time with Liverpool leading 2-0.

“We are used to seeing Mo Salah as a confident player,” Hart said. “Actually, it was hard to watch him today. The first chance he got where the block was made was a clear sign. He was struggling and didn’t look confident. We saw him come in at half-time and he was beat up.”

Mo Salah’s final season at Liverpool

This season is shaping up to be a nightmare for the Reds after today’s 15th defeat, but Salah’s struggles this season will do little to tarnish his legendary status.

Since joining in 2017, the Egyptian King has scored 255 goals and provided over 100 assists, leading the club to two Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy.

At the Etihad, he missed three big chances and missed penalties, and although he is no trace of his former self, he remains the club’s third-highest scorer in the club’s history.

As Arne Slott’s side shift their focus to Wednesday’s daunting Champions League clash with PSG, supporters will be hoping for one last spark of magic from the departing icon to salvage the remains of a crumbling campaign.
