It’s been a great season for Sunderland. They are one of the Premier League’s hottest teams and are sweeping the top flight to end the spell of promotion teams in recent years.

While the Black Cats may be unlucky for some, they have had incredible luck for Regis Le Bris. The Frenchman is now on track to carve his name into the club’s history and has his sights set on avoiding second-season syndrome.

In terms of players, players like Brian Brobbey have done well enough to attract interest from Bayern Munich, so why would he leave now? Just ask Jack Clark – the grass isn’t always greener.

Clarke was on his way to stardom at Sunderland

Clarke left the Sunderland party before playing a Premier League-themed song requested by the DJ and has since appeared to have regrets.

The former Tottenham Hotspur winger was in excellent form at the Stadium of Light and would have undoubtedly played a key role in Le Blis’ promotion just a few months after sealing his move to Ipswich Town.

In the previous season, Clarke was arguably Sunderland’s best player, scoring 15 goals in all competitions. It is no wonder that Ipswich, who have achieved promotion to the top flight themselves, came calling.

While Sunderland spent the next 12 months preparing to qualify for the Premier League, survive and potentially even more, it was Clarke who was left feeling frustrated. Despite Ipswich’s collapse, he is now back where he started and hopes to claw his way back into the top tier this season.

More than half of the 25-year-old’s goals for the club came in his last full season on Wearside, highlighting the level of Sunderland left in his place.

Arguably, the Black Cats have the same quality in the form of great academy graduates only now that they have joined the Premier League.

Sunderland’s new Clarke on the rise

Nothing would make Sunderland happier than to see Chris Rigg rise to stardom under Le Bliss.

The academy graduate, who is only 18 years old, has already made his mark at the Stadium of Light and has every chance of picking up where Clarke left off.

Le Brice is certainly a fan of attacking midfielders and is slowly showing signs of becoming a top-quality winger, especially after causing so much trouble to Lewis Hall in last month’s Tyne Wear derby.

Ask Ramin Yamal and he’ll tell you how difficult it is to get past the halls of St James’ Park. Rigg made it look routine and was later given the same role in the win over Tottenham.

Rigg has the same tenacity, although he hasn’t quite reached Clark’s goals and assist numbers yet. In his final season at Sunderland, the former won around eight duels per game and created just over two chances. Against Newcastle, Newcastle scored 5 and 3 points respectively.

He has the same energy, and while he may not have the natural dribbling ability, he is similarly small and tricky on the flanks.

Unlike Clark, there’s a good chance Rigg is here to stay, too. He is a player who has grown tremendously at his boyhood club and has since broken into the world of Premier League football consistently.

Sunderland will be looking to reap the rewards of a member of Le Blis’ side while their former winger looks to return to the top flight.
