Chelsea hope to sign Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon at the end of the season.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are looking to further improve the quality of their side. They spent a lot of money on Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens at the beginning of the season. However, neither player was able to demonstrate their overwhelming power.
Chelsea believe Gordon could be a great addition to their squad. The England international has been in top form, contributing 22 goals to Newcastle and in all competitions. There is no doubt that he has the quality to play for Chelsea. The opportunity to join the London club will be an exciting one for the player. It would be a step up in his career.
Chelsea could offer him a platform to fight for trophies and regularly feature in the Champions League.
The player could cost around £80m in the summer, but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea are prepared to pay the asking price.
Gordon is well established in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at the west London club. He could change Chelsea offensively. The Newcastle star can play on either flank as well as in the middle. His versatility will be a huge plus for Chelsea.
Gordon has been linked with several English clubs. Liverpool are monitoring his situation closely. Arsenal are also said to have made inquiries about him. Where he ends up remains to be seen. He will be looking to join a competitive team that can fight for trophies.
The asking price could be an issue for clubs interested in signing the player. £80 million is a significant amount of money.
