According to the Associated Press, Jim Furyk is set to return as captain of the U.S. team at the Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland. Furyk previously led the U.S. team to the Ryder Cup in 2018, when the U.S. suffered a decisive seven-point loss at Le Golf National in Paris.

The PGA of America has not yet officially announced its decision.

Tiger Woods was considered by many to be the frontrunner to captain the U.S. national team in 2027. The PGA of America was chasing him for the position. Furyk, the fourth American captain to reprise that role in the modern Ryder Cup era (since 1979), lost to the Europeans 17.5-10.5 in 2018, the third-heaviest loss for the Americans in the tournament’s history. His four captain picks (Woods, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Tony Finau) combined for a 2-10-0 record against European teams led by Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose at Le Golf National in Paris.

Furyk served as vice-captain under Keegan Bradley at the 2025 Ryder Cup. The USA trailed by seven points after the second day of the tournament and ultimately lost to Europe 15-13 at Bethpage Black in New York.

The United States has lost consecutive games to Europe in the Ryder Cup, making it the seventh consecutive loss in an overseas match since 1993.
