Manchester United are set to bid farewell to Casemiro at the end of this season, with a deal agreed to see him replaced by one of their rising stars.

Carrick admits Casemiro staying is out of the question

Benjamin Sesco is in awe of ‘working machine’ Casemiro and is learning all he can from the Manchester United fan favorite ahead of his summer departure.

The 34-year-old may not be enjoying the best feeling he had at Real Madrid, but he has formed a special bond with the supporters, and that bond has only grown stronger since it was confirmed in January that he would be leaving the club at the end of his contract.

United fans once again called for Casemiro to stay for another season after his man-of-the-match performance scored the opening goal against Brentford on Monday.

The club face a tall order in signing a replacement for captain Bruno Fernandes this summer, with his future back in the spotlight.

The 31-year-old revealed how the players felt about Casemiro’s departure and set up Sesco for his 19th assist of the season, moving him one closer to equaling the Premier League’s single-season assist record.

“He’s a work machine,” said the Slovenian striker. “He has a lot of experience and his play on the pitch is unbelievable. We need a player like this.”

“Unfortunately he has to leave… but we are happy to be able to manage him until the last moment of the game and we will use him.

“How you look at him, it’s very important, you know? And I think you could be stupid if you look at him and don’t try to be like him in terms of work rate and other things. And I think everyone is happy to have him here.”

“Unfortunately he left, but yeah, it’s important to keep him like this.”

Head coach Michael Carrick has poured cold water on the Brazilian international’s chances of staying. The Red Devils are set to sign two new midfielders this summer, but have already agreed a new long-term deal with Koby Mainu and found an internal successor.

Koby Mainu contract renewal

In fact, Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday that the 21-year-old Mainu will sign a new and improved contract until June 2031.

Following on from Wednesday, Romano shared a new update without actually saying anything, posting My Nu with an emoji indicating a contract being signed and a “soon” symbol.

Mainu was sensational in the wins over Chelsea and Brentford and Carrick heaped praise on him after Monday’s win over the Bees.

“Just like against Chelsea, he showed that he is perfect both with and without the ball, both defensively and offensively.

“We know he can do it and it’s good to see him demonstrate that. He’s in great shape right now.”

United are hoping to find a midfield partner for the youngster in the transfer window, but could miss out on Elliott Anderson as the Nottingham Forest star approaches Manchester City.
