MADRID – World No. 1 Yannick Siner extended his winning streak to 22 matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Arthur Fils in the final of the Madrid Open on Friday.

The Italian’s 350th career win makes him the first player born in the 2000s to reach that milestone.

“I’m very happy with my overall performance today. I’m trying to play the best tennis possible. It was a very good day at the office today,” Sinner, who missed a break point in the semifinal, said in an on-court interview.

Sinner, who is trying to become the first man to win five consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments, will face No. 3 Alexander Zverev or Belgium’s Alexander Brox in Sunday’s final.

Sinner also joined the elite list with Friday’s win. He is the fourth and youngest player to reach the finals of all nine Masters 1000 events, following Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

The world No. 1 broke Fils’ serve twice in the first set and was under pressure at 30-30 in the sixth game of the second set, but held his serve with consecutive aces to make it 3-3.

Sinner made a crucial break with a backhand winner down the line to take a 5-4 lead before serving out the match against the Frenchman.

Sinner’s winning streak also includes titles at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte Carlo.

In the women’s event, Mila Andreeva will face Marta Kostyuk in Saturday’s final.
