If there were still any doubts about Arsenal’s title credentials, they were put to rest once and for all on Saturday night at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s side produced a complete masterclass, completely crushing Fulham with a resounding 3-0 victory.
The victory was a huge achievement, taking the Gunners to the top of the Premier League with 76 points and establishing a decisive six-point lead over a relentless Manchester City side.
Striker Victor Gokeres secured an impressive brace with goals either side of the half-time break, but it was Bukayo Saka’s superb strike that really grabbed everyone’s attention.
The high quality of Saka’s performance certainly did not go unnoticed.
Gary Neville praises Arsenal star Bukayo Saka
Speaking on NBC Sports, Manchester United legend Gary Neville was quick to praise him.
Neville has at times criticized Arsenal’s attacking fluidity this season, but he couldn’t help but praise the winger’s top-class influence, helping the team to Premier League glory.
he said: “With Saka on that right flank, they seemed to have recovered a little bit. Maduke is a very good player, but Saka is top class. It was a very good day for Arsenal. They have to wait and watch Manchester City.”
Neville observed that while Arteta would be understandably thrilled with the three-point victory, the demanding manager may actually be a bit frustrated at not scoring more to close the crucial goal difference.
“He will celebrate the win and will have to remind his players to take advantage of their chances and be calm and ruthless.” Neville said.
Gunners looking to end title drought
For Arsenal fans, the stakes are almost unbearably high.
It’s been 22 years since the club last lifted the Premier League trophy, and it’s been a tough year, with the club hoping to avoid the heartbreaking experience of finishing runners-up for three successive seasons.
The pressure is firmly back on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side, who are now looking to close that formidable six-point gap with two games in hand.
Their first test will be a tricky trip to Everton on Monday night.
With Gokeres pounding into goal and Saka threatening the full-backs on the right, the Gunners have all the firepower they need to cross the goal line.
