American tennis player Amanda Anisimova became the latest high-seeded tennis player to lose in the first three rounds at Roland Garros on Saturday.

Anisimova faced sixth-seeded and unranked Diane Parry in the women’s draw.

Parry took advantage of the home crowd to take the first set 6-3. Given the upsets early in the tournament for both the men’s and women’s races, it seemed like Anisimova might be the next to be eliminated early.

The American fought back in the second set, winning 6-4 and taking the match to a third set.

Anisimova led 5-4 in the final set and had a chance to win with a break on parry, but the Frenchwoman tied the set at five games apiece.

The American held her serve when the third set was 6-5. All eyes were on whether Parry would be able to hold serve and take the match to a tiebreak, or whether Anisimova would be able to escape and emerge victorious.

Parry persevered and took the match to a tiebreak. Scores differ in tie-breaks. The winner is first to score 10 points, but must win by two points.

The game was tied 3-3 in the tiebreak, but Parry then scored seven consecutive points to win 10-3.

Parry, 23, will be playing in the fourth round of Roland Garros for the first time in his career. She will face unranked Maja Chwalinska on Monday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
