Crystal Palace are currently looking to replace Oliver Glasner with the ‘tactical genius’ who just won the Manager of the Season award.
Palace are looking to replace their ‘best’ manager of all time
Glasner lifted three trophies – the FA Cup, Community Shield and European Conference League – during his impressive spell at Selhurst Park, with Adam Wharton suggesting the Austrian was the club’s best ever manager.
The midfielder said: “He’s got to be one of the best managers in Crystal Palace’s history. He’s brought about a big change in the way the club looks at competitions. We’re not just looking to stay in the Premier League and go to Europe, we’re aiming to win and get as high as possible.”
The 51-year-old has a big job left to do, but winning the Europa Conference League will earn him a spot in next season’s Europa League, which should make Selhurst Park an attractive destination this summer.
The Eagles are set to miss out on Andoni Iraola, as the former AFC Bournemouth manager wants to replace Arne Slott at Liverpool.
Steve Parish has therefore begun considering alternative options, with the Ligue 1 Manager of the Year winner emerging as a target.
Palace are moving to appoint a ‘tactical genius’ to replace Glasner
According to a report from talkSPORT, Crystal Palace are currently considering a move for RC Lens manager Pierre Sarge, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will materialize.
His contract with Sage runs until the summer of 2028, and he hinted at the possibility of extending his current contract. “There is no reason for it (the situation surrounding his future) to develop. But there are a lot of contacts. I have a contract and I will try to respect it. I am very happy at this club.”
With Iraola set to move to Anfield, a number of other managers have been linked to take over the role as Palace manager, including Kieran McKenna, Sean Dyche and Thomas Frank.
Reims has emerged as a target after an outstanding season, leading his team to second place in Ligue 1 and winning the French Cup thanks to a 3-1 victory over OGC Nice in the final.
Manchester City star Rayan Cherki is also a big fan of the 47-year-old, saying: “People forget what a tactical genius he is.
“Every game is prepared down to the millimeter. We know exactly where the spaces are and what we have to do with the ball. He makes football simpler for us.”
Pierre Sarge’s managerial record | match | Points per match |
RC lens | 40 | 2.20 |
lyon | 56 | 1.93 |
So while losing Glasner after such an impressive period is a tough pill to swallow, Sage could be a very exciting replacement.
