        • Fabrizio Romano: star rejects other clubs to agree personal terms with Manchester United
  • The goalkeeper could return to Manchester United this summer

Manchester United have announced that Rasmus Hjølund has completed a permanent move to Napoli, shortly after agreeing a deal with Ederson from the striker’s former club Atalanta.

The 23-year-old joined from the Bergamo side in 2023 for an initial transfer fee of £64m, plus future add-ons of £8m, as the Denmark international joined the club he grew up supporting.

However, Hojlund managed to score just 14 goals in 62 Premier League games and returned to Serie A last season on loan, which would become permanent if the club qualified for the Champions League.

The team, which was managed by Antonio Conte until the end of May, were runners-up and a clause of 44 million euros (approximately 3.8 billion yen) was triggered, meaning United would have recouped a total of 50 million euros (approximately 4.32 billion yen), taking into account the previous contract.

“Rasmus Hjølund has joined Napoli on a permanent transfer. Everyone at the club wishes Rasmus the best of luck for the future,” the Premier League club said in a statement.

While one player is leaving Old Trafford for Serie A, another is preparing to leave.

United are working towards signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of their return to the Champions League next season.

Brazilian captain Casemiro played his final game for the club, with an agreement in place for his compatriot in a deal worth €40.5m (about £35m) plus a potential €4.5m (about £390m).

Ederson is set to sign a contract until 2030 with an option for a further year, with the deal reportedly expected to close in early July.

Fabrizio Romano: star rejects other clubs to agree personal terms with Manchester United

United are expected to have a busy summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old is set to become the first signing of the Michael Carrick era after the former United midfielder impressed in his brief role as head coach and earned a two-year contract.

United finished third in the Premier League and returned to the Champions League after a year away from European football.

The goalkeeper could return to Manchester United this summer

According to Fabrizio Romano, one man who may not follow the same path as Hoylund is goalkeeper Andre Onana.

The 30-year-old has spent the season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor and United had hoped to make him a permanent move this summer, but Trabzonspor only want a new loan deal.

This opens the door for him to return to United’s pre-season camp if a compromise cannot be reached, Romano explained on his Youtube channel.

“My understanding is that Trabzonspor will try to negotiate with Andre Onana and Manchester United to keep the player on loan for another season.

“Therefore, if an agreement can be reached before the start of pre-season, Onana will leave for Trabzonspor immediately.

“Otherwise he will take part in Man United’s pre-season and we will see what happens.”

Onana, who has 53 caps for Cameroon, has made 29 appearances in the Super Lig this season, with a pass success rate of 75 per cent and six clean sheets.

He could be appointed as Senne Ramens’ successor if Altai Bajndir leaves the club, but his £120,000-a-week salary is seen as high for a reserve role.
