Tennis fans who have been missing Roger Federer, who has completely dominated the U.S. Open for years, will have another chance to see him take to the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium in an exhibition.

Federer announced a special exhibition match titled “Roger Federer: The Icon Returns to New York.” The event will be held on August 25th during the US Open. He will play alongside longtime rival Andy Roddick. Tennis legends Andre Agassi and John McEnroe will also appear at the event.

Federer said he can’t wait to take to the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium again.

“The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said. “Many unforgettable moments in my career have happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means so much to me. I missed being a part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy the fans bring each year. Being able to return to Arthur Ashe and share the evening with Andy, Andre and John will be even more meaningful. I look forward to celebrating those memories, reuniting with the fans, and enjoying a very special night together.”

Federer’s dominance at that venue is well documented. From 2004 to 2008, Federer won five consecutive US Open titles. During that time, he defeated both Agassi and Roddick in the final.

Back in his playing days, Federer had great success on court against both Agassi and Roddick. Federer went 8-3 against Agassi and 21-3 against Roddick during his career. While the competition likely won’t rise to the same level in exhibitions, there’s little doubt that Federer will be looking for another win against his biggest rivals.

Federer, 44, hasn’t played much competitive tennis since officially retiring in 2022. Before that, Federer had won 20 major titles and established himself as one of the greatest male players of all time.

Late in his career, Federer suffered from knee problems and underwent multiple surgeries.

After reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2021, Federer announced that he had undergone further knee surgery, forcing him to miss that year’s US Open. He did not appear in any other Grand Slam during his career.
