MADISON – The Bay Conference’s dominance at the 100th WIAA State Golf Championships was on full display June 9 at University Ridge Golf Course.
Seymour’s Vince Siguru won the Division 2 state championship in individual play, and Winneconne won the D2 team title in the playoffs against Edgewood.

Fellow Bay Conference school Xavier also competed in the D2 team field and finished fifth overall.
Short game is important for winning the golf title in Sigur region
Sigur, who won last year’s championship in a playoff, entered the second day of the tournament in the lead with a 1-under 71.
He had a great second round, finishing with a 4-under 68 for a two-day total of 139, four strokes ahead of second place Elliott Skinner of Altoona.
A big reason for Chigurh’s success was his short game.
“The short game is definitely a part of golf and I think it’s where you get the most strokes,” Siguru said. “And today and yesterday, I didn’t miss the greens a lot, but when I did, I knew I had a chance to go up and down. I’ve been scrambling around the course all my life, so I’m pretty used to it now.”

Seymour coach Katie Glassell said Sigur has been doing a great mental battle in preparation. Siguru improved on his championship numbers from last season, when he hit 147 (75-72).
“He knew coming in here today that he needed to putt better than he did last year,” Glassell said. “Last year, he was putting OK but wanted to get it up a little bit, so that was one of our focuses. On the first day, he was a little disappointed, but on the second day he had a lot of one-putts.
“The weather was nice and calm today, so he was excited to play this morning. The greens aren’t too damaged, so getting them a little bit fresher is the best way to come out on the second day.”
Vince’s younger brother Owen, a junior, posted a two-day total of 151 (78 wins, 73 losses) and tied for seventh in individual play. Senior Tristan Dras posted a two-day total of 163 (85-78), tied for 29th place.

“Owen played a great 35 holes,” Glassell said. “He had one hole he wanted to get back. I told him not to focus on that. Tristan hits a long ball and he loves the game. You can see he’s on a roll. I’m proud of them and what they’ve accomplished in putting Seymour on the golf map.”

Wolves win D2 title by winning playoff against Edgewood
Winneconne led by a few strokes in the final few holes of regulation play, but a hard push from Edgewood tied the Crusaders and sent them into the playoffs.
Edgewood hit 17 on the first hole, while the Wolves hit 15 combined in the playoff round. Senior Parker Groff’s birdie proved the difference.

Winneconne won with 620. Xavier was fifth with 634.
“It’s a dream and definitely a way to get out there,” Groff said. “This was my last year and I had to play one more hole to finish it there. We played well as a team. A few guys hit some great shots and I made that putt to seal the game.”
Groff said she didn’t want to be nervous in that moment.
“I was just trying not to get nervous and not push myself too hard,” he said. “So I did a good job and made the putt. It slid under the cup, on the right side of the cup.”
Austin Dobbe tied for fourth overall with a two-day total of 149 RBIs (78 wins, 71 losses) and led the Timberwolves by four strokes (76 wins, 77 losses, 153 RBIs) over Groff.

Juniors Sawyer Krueger (85-76, 161), Jackson Larson (83-80, 163) and Sally Ramtoun (79-86, 165) also played for the Wolves.
Dobbe said the team had confidence in that high-pressure moment in the playoffs.
“I know our team is great. We’ve done that many times,” he said. “We did exactly what we set out to do.
“We’ve been on this team for two years and we’re on the same team. We’re great friends. We all get along. It’s a great team. The best team I’ve ever seen.”
This was the Wolves’ seventh state trip and their first title. Winneconne has come close recently, finishing second behind Edgewood in 2023.
Winneconne coach Chris Peters, who shares head coaching duties with Brad Thomas, said Edgewood has been a nemesis for some time.

“We always finished behind Edgewood,” Peters said. “We were third for a few years as well, so we were always competing against those guys. It’s kind of like the battle against Xavier. This is one of the schools that historically we’ve always played against and they seemed to beat us in one way or another. So we’re very happy to come out on top the way we did.”
Xavier’s Derek Watley tied for fourth overall in individual play with Winnecong’s Dobbe. He shot 149 over two days (78-71).
For the Hawks, Philipp Schmidtke (82-76-158) tied for 23rd place and William Bauman (78-82-160) tied for 26th place. Jack Schmidtke (83-84-167) and Grant Newman (86-84-170) also played for the Hawks.
In Division 3, Siocton freshman Owen Reese finished 25th at 166 (86-80).
Kimberly’s Andrew Osterman will compete in the 2026 WIAA State Men’s Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 9, at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
Paper manufacturer finishes second in Division 1
Kimberly scored 592 and took second place in the D1 team competition. That was 14 strokes behind D1 champion Middleton, but Papermakers finished three strokes behind defending D1 champion Marquette. De Pere finished fourth with a total of 601.

Andrew Osterman led the Papermakers to a fifth-place finish. He hit a total of 140 shots (67-73) over the two days.
“The guys came in very confident and thought they had a chance. They were hoping to get second place,” Kimberly coach Greg Lueneberg said. “Andrew is the only one who has made it to the state tournament so far. He stepped up and showed he’s a veteran and knows what to do here under pressure. And the other guys just stepped up and did enough to take second place, which is phenomenal.”
The Papermakers’ Tyler Stino tied for 12th place (76-70-146) and Collin Herman tied for 20th (76-72-148). Drew Grant (80-80-160) and Tyson West (78-82-160) tied for 66th place.
All five golfers are juniors, which bodes well for the Papermakers next season.

“They have already talked about how they will start tomorrow and are ready,” Lüneburg said. “They want to win next year. That’s a great attitude.”
Appleton North’s Jonathan Hunnink shot a two-day total of 153 shots (77-76), tied for 33rd place.
Leading De Pere was freshman Grant Lawton, who finished 10th at 143 (72-71). Cooper Eakin tied for 33rd at 153, Palmer Anderson tied for 39th at 154, Jonah Garrott tied for 54th at 158, and Cam Bjorge tied for 72nd at 161.
West De Pere’s Grant Parrett tied for 58th at 159, and Bay Port’s Connor Ness tied for 48th at 157.

Kewaunee’s Evan McCaw tied for fifth in Division 3 with a two-day total of 155 points.
