US President Donald Trump has confidently advocated for coach Mauricio Pochettino and supported the USMNT’s full participation in the 2026 World Cup.

Last night, ahead of the United States’ 4-1 victory over Paraguay, which saw the hosts get off to a dream start to the tournament, President Trump sent a powerful message of encouragement to Pochettino.

Co-hosts Mexico also got off to a winning start by defeating South Africa 2-0 earlier this week, but fellow co-hosts Canada were forced to draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The United States will likely be the main focus of this summer’s tournament, with Manager Pochettino and other top coaches, but it seems unreasonable for President Trump to support the United States until the very end.

Message from Donald Trump to Mauricio Pochettino

As quoted by BBC Sport, President Trump told Pochettino before last night’s game:

“I think you have a pretty good chance of making it all the way to the end. I wish you the best of luck.”

Pochettino has been highly regarded as a football manager after doing a great job at Tottenham, but he also won major trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and was also in charge at Chelsea.

This will be an interesting new challenge for the Argentines, but there will certainly be plenty of teams ahead of the United States in their bid to win this year’s World Cup.

Spain will probably be the favorite to win, followed by France, England, Brazil and Argentina.
