Newcastle United are reportedly scrambling to rebuild their attacking plan after losing Victor Munoz to Liverpool in dramatic fashion.
The Osasuna winger looked set to head to Tyneside, but reports claim Newcastle were working hard on the deal and were also preparing key steps before Liverpool made their move in the second half.
The Reds’ signing of the Spanish attacker has frustrated Newcastle, who believed they were close to signing one of their preferred wide options.
According to the Guardian, Liverpool moved quickly to sign Munoz in a deal worth around £34.5 million, beating out Newcastle and several other clubs.
Liverpool Offside also reported that Newcastle had agreed fees, personal terms and agent fees before Liverpool took over the move.
Newcastle United have new attacking option
But Newcastle are not expected to waste time feeling sorry for themselves.
A source close to X said the club is currently in contact with the representatives of Darwin Nunez and Marcus Rashford to find an alternative to the statement.
Both players will bring different things. Nunez provides chaos, movement and explosive running at the back, while Rashford offers speed, directness and Premier League experience from the left.
Either option would give Newcastle’s attack a different edge, especially if the club wants more speed and unpredictability in the final third.
I feel it is necessary to sign the statement now.
This feels like a key moment for Newcastle’s recruitment team.
It hurt to lose to Liverpool in the final stages, but the way we handled it was more important than the setback itself.
Rashford’s future remains uncertain after Barcelona decided not to activate his permanent option.
Nunez has also been linked with a possible move after his stay in Saudi Arabia, with the Premier League club monitoring his situation.
Nuñez’s relationship with Rashford is still in its early stages. But after Muñoz’s disappointment, Newcastle clearly need a swift and convincing response.
