“Chelsea will chase Marco Palestra at breakneck speed,” Ornstein posted. “We expect to reach an agreement with Atalanta for the 21-year-old wing-back within 24 hours. The Italian international is very much on the table.” #CFC / Alonso believes that once a deal is signed between the clubs, it will fit into the wage structure. ”
Marco Palestra’s move looks like a perfect fit for Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea
The Palestra is set to become the latest exciting young talent to join Chelsea’s project and also appears to be a perfect fit for new manager Xabi Alonso.
The Italian international has shown plenty of promise in Serie A and is capable of playing at right-back or wing-back, meaning he should be well suited to Alonso’s preferred tactical system.
The Spanish tactician used wing-backs in particular during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, so he would be delighted to have a player like Palestra given that option at Chelsea.
However, some Chelsea fans may be annoyed to see the club refocus on youth rather than experience.
CFC’s ownership has come under criticism, with fans sometimes protesting after a disappointing season last season in which the team went trophyless and missed out on European qualification.
Palestra has a good chance of becoming a top player in three years or so, but he is not a player who will immediately raise the level of Chelsea’s squad.
Still, a number of big clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham, have shown interest in the Palestra.
