Nottingham Forest are continuing to assess their midfield following Elliott Anderson’s impending departure.

Man City are closing in on a deal worth around £116m for Anderson, with the England international one of new manager Enzo Maresca’s priority midfield targets.

The move is one of the biggest transfers of the summer and will give Forest significant funds to reinvest throughout the squad.

Anderson excelled at the City Ground, establishing himself as one of Forest’s most influential players with his energy, creativity and ability to drive the team forward from midfield.

The 23-year-old was a key mainstay throughout the Premier League season, contributing vital goals and assists and ranking among Forest’s top performers for chances created and progressive carries.

His performances also earned him recognition as a member of the England national team, attracting interest from several elite clubs such as Man United, followed by neighboring City.

He remains in exceptional shape.

Forest’s recruitment team have spent little time identifying potential successors should Anderson complete his move to the Etihad Stadium.

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney is one of a number of options being considered by Evangelos Marinakis and others.

The Championship Player of the Year also had an early bid rejected by Everton, with Forest thought to be keen on Hackney as well.

Sky has hinted that Forest could sign two new midfielders following Anderson’s departure, with the likes of Tottenham’s Lukas Bergvall, Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi and Celtic’s Arne Engels all on the radar.

However, another player who has caught the club’s attention is highly rated young Roma midfielder Nicolo Pisilli.

According to Italian journalist Luca Cerchione, Forest manager has approached Roma about the possibility of signing the Italian international this summer.

According to ‘Cerchione’, Como have also made inquiries regarding the possibility of signing Pisilli.

However, Rome made its position clear.

Serie A clubs will not allow their brightest academy graduate to leave unless they receive what is described as an extraordinary offer.

That attitude reflects Picilli’s growing importance within Roma’s first team over the past six months.

Nicolo Pisilli’s good form in Roma earns him the status of “rising star”

After forcing his way back into the first team early in the season, the midfielder has become an increasingly important figure since January.

He featured regularly in the second half of the season, gaining more starting appearances and playing a key role in Roma finishing in 3rd place in Serie A after 25/26 games in excellent form.

Despite being still in the early stages of his career, Picilli’s maturity in possession, intelligent movement and willingness to contribute defensively has made him a reliable option in central midfield.

His performance attracted attention in the Italian football world.

The 21-year-old finished the season with a series of impressive performances and was named Serie A’s Rising Star of the Month for May.

The award recognizes his consistency in the final weeks of the season as he continued to establish himself as one of the most exciting young midfielders in the league.

Pisilli has also progressed in Italy’s youth international system and is widely seen as one of the country’s top prospects for his position.

The Azzurri star earned a place in Italy’s first team as a result of his excellent performances, and after a disappointing World Cup qualifier, interim manager Silvio Baldini gave him a full start in both the 1-0 wins against Greece and Luxembourg.

His potential is clear. The only question is how much Marinakis is willing to pay to sign, but Roma have made it clear they will only accept big money.
