  • Tottenham plan to take over Ruben Vargas
  • Tottenham should not prioritize Vargas transfer

Tottenham Hotspur are the undisputed winners of the summer transfer window so far. They have spent more than £200m to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, but with the likes of Ruben Vargas linked, that may not happen.

The Swiss star has performed well at the World Cup and will face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the quarter-finals.

His entire focus is on making history for his country, but the winger has already made his wishes clear ahead of a potential move this summer.

Football Fancast Verdict

reliability

Tottenham have been untouched this summer. After hovering close to the relegation zone for the past two seasons, Vargas is finally back in action and could be next. He reportedly wants a move to the Premier League, which would be a huge advantage for the Lilywhites over West Ham.

finances

The World Cup could have an interesting impact on player valuations, but Sevilla appear to be sticking with an offer of €15 million (approximately 1.3 billion yen), which is an absolute bargain for interested parties.

insight

The winger enjoyed a fantastic World Cup with Switzerland, scoring two goals and providing one assist as his country made history. As a depth option, he would be a great signing in North London.

impact

If West Ham fail to sign Vargas they will be back to square one, but it remains to be seen who they can target for the Championship positions.

Vargas could become the latest of a number of star players to earn another big transfer following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

Tottenham plan to take over Ruben Vargas

According to Spain’s Orgullo Biri, reported by Sport Witness, Tottenham are planning to take over West Ham in order to sign Vargas. The Hammers have already made contact for the Sevilla forward, but his Premier League aspirations mean Spurs and Brighton & Hove Albion are in the driver’s seat.

The Premier League duo are set to lead the race to sign the Swiss star in future transfer requests. However, it remains to be seen whether their interest will turn into an offer. Sevilla value the 28-year-old at just £13m this summer.

Tottenham should not prioritize Vargas transfer

It would be tempting for Spurs to pick up a point against West Ham, but Vargas is not their priority.

Before enjoying an impressive World Cup, the winger scored just three goals for Spain and assisted a further six. It would be a classic mistake to sign a star player from a summer tournament who was struggling domestically.

The Spurs would be better off keeping Matthijs Tell instead of signing Vargas. The former PSG man outperformed the Swiss star on a per game basis last season and is still much younger at 21 years old.
