Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Chelsea’s signing of Maxence Lacroix as negotiations between the Blues and Crystal Palace reach their final stages.
The French centre-back has emerged as a key target for Chelsea to strengthen their backline, with decision-makers at both clubs actively working to finalize an agreement.

Romano’s latest information on Maxence Lacroix
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano published a comprehensive breakdown of the negotiations on his YouTube channel, confirming that the transfer is rapidly approaching completion.
Personal terms between Chelsea and Lacroix have already been fully agreed, with the 26-year-old defender reportedly keen on a move to London.
Romano reported: “Yesterday, we told you that negotiations with Maxence Lacroix are ongoing, progressing and getting closer, and now the deal is really in its final stages.”
“Maxence Lacroix is one step closer to becoming Chelsea’s new player.”
Romano said discussions between the two clubs continued after the important meeting in New York, and the clubs are currently working to finalize the remaining details of the transfer.
Crystal Palace and Chelsea working towards final agreement
Journalist Alex Crook reports that Palace chairman Steve Parish is in charge of direct negotiations and that the overall financial package is expected to be in excess of £55m.
According to Crook, Chelsea are offering opportunities to sign a number of players, including Axel Disasi.
However, according to Romano, a swap agreement involving DiSasi remains unlikely.
Crystal Palace have made inquiries about Disasi, but the French defender is reportedly reluctant to join the Eagles and is currently considering alternative opportunities.
“Again, it is my understanding that DiSasi is not included in the contract at this stage,” Romano said.
Chelsea close to new major contract
With his personal terms fully resolved and the ownership group in active dialogue, Lacroix is poised to become Chelsea’s next key defender following the arrival of Morgan Rodgers.
Chelsea leaders are keen to conclude negotiations quickly and Romano said a formal agreement could be reached at any time.
