The lucky couple turned to an unlikely celebrity source, Novak Djokovic, to help reveal their gender.
The couple caught Djokovic’s attention earlier this year with a simple but unusual request: Could he read out a piece of paper with the gender of their future child written on it?
Amused (and flattered), the Serbian tennis star was the first to reveal that the couple were aware of what they were asking: “Again, really? Positive?” They were. So Djokovic obliged, first doing some crowd work to determine whether the assembled onlookers were rooting for the girl or the boy, and then proceeded to read out the contents of the newspaper delivered to him via text, as shown in recent social media posts.
It was a girl, and the audience cheered.
“She will be your whole world,” Djokovic told the couple.
The exchange appears to have taken place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in early March, according to comments on the original Instagram post, but the video wasn’t posted until July.
In any case, the baby girl’s new parents (who confirmed in a reply to Djokovic’s comment on the couple’s post that their daughter was born on the same day as Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime’s Wimbledon match on July 7) also got a unique souvenir from the experience. In addition to presenting the brand with memorabilia, Djokovic posed for a photo with the couple and signed a paper that was read out to the public.
“Dr. Novak Djokovic Approved,” he wrote, with a heart and signature at the bottom saying “Congratulations.”
