Liverpool’s 2025/26 campaign is featured on us. This weekend, Arne Slot will lead the squad for the first time this season, trying to assert a community shield against Crystal Palace, which won the FA Cup in May.
Curtain Razor is just a prelude to the campaign, but it’s an opportunity for Premier League champions to showcase new qualities added to the ranks and set the tone for the next few years.
Things like Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike start at the top and aim. Meanwhile, fullbacks Milos Kerkez and Jeremy Fripon are hoping to launch a long and fruitful partnership on the side. Giorgi Mamaldashvili may make his debut after Alison Becker leaves the preseason due to personal issues. The Brazilian then returned to training.
One player who won’t appear in the Reds is Newcastle United’s Alexander Isaac. He desperately wants to sign Merseysider, and is already eligible for a £110 million bid that has been rejected.
But will sports director Richard Hughes pull that off?
Latest news on Alexander Isaac from Liverpool to Liverpool
As Isaac has been described by Sky Sports’ Jamie Carrager, the struggle to sign Newcastle’s new centre forward has hampered Liverpool in his quest for “the best striker in the Premier League.”
Isaac’s position in Newcastle appears unacceptable. Because he is not included in the club’s recent barbecue, and is a gathering involving teams, staff and family, and is ordered to train alone.
As Magpies are actively looking for a new number nine, Isak feels that although little certain, they will be given the opportunity to travel at some stage this summer. Reports say Liverpool is preparing a fresh approach.

Liverpool open talk about ISAK Alternative
According to the KOP Empire, Liverpool will be interested in signing Joan Wissa from Brentford this summer if they can’t acquire Isaac from St. James Park. It is understood that the initial inquiry was made.
Wissa, 28, was one of the most prolific forwards in the Premier League last season and is worth £50 million. Suiters want to pay less. Newcastle has been leading the race in recent weeks, but Tottenham Hotspur and Al Nasr have also expressed their desire to snap him up.
Dr. Congo International has returned to training after a previous strike but is still targeting travel from GTECH Community Stadium.
That being said, there may be a sense that if Liverpool increases the strength of their plot, then perhaps Hughes may inadvertently add to the magpie anguish.
Why Liverpool is interested in Joan Wissa
Whissa may not be the flashiest name on the market, but he is a clinical scorer and has been proven in the Premier League. Last season, he scored 20 goals in all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League.
Whissa, who was welcomed by Mark McAdam for Sky Sports’ “absolute sensational” finish, may not have Isaac’s dynamism or incredible technical capabilities, but he is pretty good at what he is doing and will provide the perfect counterpoint of Ekichike.
Last season, Ekitike ranked in the top 10% of strikers in the top five leagues of European assists, top 6% of shot-making action, and top 4% of take-ons per 90 per 90 according to FBREF.
The action of creating a shot is a game that leads to a shot. These include moments like passing, take-on, fouls and more.
However, he reflects Isaac’s off-the-shelf clinical nature, which can prove important given that Ekitique is not a finished product.
Certainly there is a partnership. Wissa and Ekitique may not be stylistically similar to Number Nine – and that portends Liverpool’s long-term urging ency – but the bee star could be the next version of the former Eintrohat Frankfurt man Reds.
That’s because Newcastle has a vested interest in a talent of £25,000 per week. Also, interest has been growing (we will bid Ekitike for the Tyneside outfit in 2022 before finally signing ISAK).
Liverpool’s steal first and build up even more misery on the Carabao Cup champion would be a cruel blow to the people of Toon’s persuasive, but the argument to sign Wissa is strong.
It’s understandable that it will fork another UK record fee for ISAK, but that doesn’t mean that Liverpool should spend an incredible amount on alternatives just to check the boxes. With Wissa, you can make sharp purchases and your teams are all strengthened and advanced in the same way.
This is a necessary move, with a sign that Darwin Nunez will complete a permanent transfer to Al Giral in the Saudi Arabian Professional League, and Wissa will establish himself as Ekitique for Liverpool’s next version.
Wissa may not have the name of Isaac’s show-stopping, but there is no doubt that the Dr. Congo star boasts a wealth of Premier League experiences and is eligible for the welcome of the vast Ekichike.
Liverpool had already stole one centre-forward target from Newcastle this summer, and could do the same by completing Wissa’s wise move if Isaac’s deal collapsed.
