  • Villa focus on new goalkeeper despite Martinez’s positive impression
  • ‘World class’ Trafford needs regular game time
        • Forget Bizzotto: Aston Villa star looks complete under Emery after Newcastle game

Aston Villa are currently considering a summer move for their ‘world-class’ goalkeeper, but Emiliano Martinez’s future at Villa Park remains uncertain.

Villa focus on new goalkeeper despite Martinez’s positive impression

Martinez has been in good form in recent weeks, making some great saves to keep a clean sheet in Villa’s 1-0 win over Brighton in the Premier League.

There was a lot of talk about the Argentine’s future during the summer transfer window, with interest from Manchester United, but in the end he ended up staying with the Villans, which manager Unai Emery was no doubt happy about.

Emery said: “It’s good news for us to stay here for Emi Martinez. I’m very, very happy. For me he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. We have the best goalkeeper in the world.”

However, recent reports from Football Insider suggest that although the 33-year-old is tied to a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, his long-term future at Villa Park is still up in the air.

The report also states that Aston Villa are considering a move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, who has been unable to force his way into Josep Guardiola’s plans since arriving at the Etihad Stadium during the summer transfer window.

Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke goes on to explain: “Aston Villa had their eye on him and Newcastle also had a long-term interest in Trafford and were close to signing him before he ultimately returned to Manchester City.

“Whether or not a player wants to move on next summer for regular first-team football will largely depend on what the player himself wants to do.”

‘World class’ Trafford needs regular game time

With Gianluigi Donnarumma joining Man City in the summer, the 23-year-old has struggled to find game time this season, making just three Premier League appearances, and needs to take a step forward in his career this summer.

Forget Bizzotto: Aston Villa star looks complete under Emery after Newcastle game

Aston Villa were knocked out of the FA Cup by fellow Premier League side Newcastle United after Marco Bizzotto’s red card grabbed the headlines.

The Englishman is at risk of having his development stunted, which is a concern given that he has shown very promising signs, keeping 29 clean sheets for Burnley in the Championship this season, equaling an EFL record in the process.

Scott Parker was certainly very impressed with the goalkeeper, who is represented by the same agent as Ezri Konsa, hailing him as “world class”, but he also ranked very highly in terms of goals conceded when compared to players of his age.

However, while there may be concerns regarding Marco Bizzotto, there is little reason to replace Martinez after the Villa goalkeeper was sent off for a reckless red card against Newcastle United on Saturday.
