Gabby Williams scored 18 points, including a crucial 6-foot jumper with 6:10 remaining, propelling the Seattle Storm to a 79-65 win over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. Williams’ basket put Seattle ahead 63-62, kicking off a decisive 19-3 run to close the game. The Storm extended their lead to 24-13 in the fourth quarter.

Nneka Ogwumike contributed 16 points, while Skylar Diggins and Ezi Magbegor each added 14 points for Seattle. Tina Charles led the Connecticut Sun with 20 points, followed by Saniya Rivers with 12 points, and both Olivia Nelson-Ododa and Leila Lacan scoring 10 points each.

After a sluggish start with only 23.5% shooting in the first quarter, Seattle trailed 16-10, largely due to strong play from Charles, who scored 8 of her 20 points early on. The Storm battled back, taking a 29-28 lead near the end of the second quarter on a jump shot by Erica Wheeler. The teams exchanged leads throughout the second and third quarters, but Seattle pulled ahead decisively in the fourth.

Following the game, the Sun will face the Los Angeles Sparks in a quick Sunday road matchup, while the Storm remain at home to host the Washington Mystics.

Fan Take: This win highlights the Seattle Storm’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure, making them a team to watch this season. For WNBA fans, games like this showcase the growing competitiveness and excitement of the league, which is great for the sport’s continued popularity and growth.
