Mo Salah equals Steven Gerrard’s record

Salah started the afternoon one goal short of matching legendary Steven Gerrard’s Premier League record.

The historic moment came in the 30th minute. Kodi Gakpo pounced on the loose ball and provided a perfectly weighted assist.

Salah displayed the clinical superiority that defined his tenure at Anfield, scoring his trademark opening goal to make it 1-0.

The goal was Salah’s ninth in the Merseyside derby, putting him level with Gerrard at the top of Liverpool’s scoring list in the Premier League era.

Everton then equalized through Beto’s goal, but Salah’s contribution provided the basis for Virgil van Dijk’s 101st-minute winner, sealing the Egyptians’ victory in their final Merseyside derby.

Salah’s departure from Liverpool makes history

The club recently confirmed that Salah will leave at the end of the 2025-26 season, and now every goal feels like the final straw on a masterpiece.

Since joining from AS Roma in 2017, the number 11 has set the standard for modern forwards, scoring 255 goals in over 430 appearances and setting an incredible amount of records both inside and outside the club.

His departure will bring an end to a nine-year chapter that brought Anfield two Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy.

Equaling Gerrard’s derby record in his final attempt, Salah further cemented his status as one of the greatest players to ever wear a red shirt.

As Liverpool continue to battle for a top-five finish, Salah remains at the heart of an era in which he has broken almost every individual record in the club’s modern history.
