Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen to return to the Premier League next season and have already set their sights on signing players who can help make that happen.

Wolves target £8m Premier League star

It was disappointing, as the Midlands club had known their fate for some time, but it also gave them a head start in the transfer market.

The early relegation allowed them to assess who would be heading for the exits and, of course, who would arrive in their place this summer under manager Rob Edwards.

Old Gold is about to say goodbye.

Already, it looks like Joao Gomez is likely to leave Molineux in the coming months, and replacing the Brazilian will certainly not be an easy task.

But on the flip side, it looks like Kieran Trippier could indeed arrive in a shrewd signing. The 35-year-old is not yet at his peak, but he is still a player who made headlines in the Champions League just a few months ago. He has all the qualities to lead the club back to the top flight.

The same can be said about the Premier League’s other goal. According to Sky Sports, Wolves are currently considering signing Anthony Patterson.

Sky Sports have brought the ‘latest news’ on Sunderland’s shot-stopper, revealing that the club are ‘able to sign’ him this summer if they reach an asking price of between £8m and £10m.

Patterson spent the second half of the season on loan at Millwall, helping them reach the play-offs, but ultimately falling short. They are now interested in making that loan move permanent, but must first hope to win the competition from Wolves.

‘Unbelievable’ Patterson should replace Jose Sa

Sam Johnstone and Jose Sa have been competing to be Wolves’ No.1 for some time, but the truth is neither have been consistent enough over the past 12 months, opening the door for Patterson to join.

The Sunderland native unfortunately lost his place in the Premier League, but quickly proved his worth at Millwall. For a fee of £10 million, he would be a great addition to the Midlands.

Not only is he at the peak of his powers at age 26, he already has a promotion on his resume. That experience alone makes him an invaluable asset in the second division.

Patterson’s has certainly received impressive accolades over the years as well. Sunderland teammate Simon Moore told reporters in 2024: “Pat is right up there with (the keepers I’ve worked with).

“I’ve been following him for a while, even before he came here. He’s a class player and makes some incredible saves. He’s also underrated and calm with the ball at his feet. His handling is great and he can definitely play at the top.”
