Yann Diomande starred in Ivory Coast’s World Cup win over Ecuador on Monday morning at Philadelphia Stadium. For the curious Liverpool fans who braved the late-night watch, they were duly rewarded with a spectacular performance.

New head coach Andoni Iraola will be delighted to see international players Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz both shining for their country, but with Mohamed Salah ending his career at Anfield, Diomande has emerged as Liverpool’s top summer target.

Diomande made a name for himself with his breakthrough at RB Leipzig, but on Monday he downgraded his reputation as one of the best players in the business by defeating Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie.

Liverpool need a profile like his, but it remains to be seen whether they can win over Paris Saint-Germain for his nine-figure signature.

We need more attacking flair at Anfield. Liverpool have been blessed with the presence of Rio Ngumoja on the left this season, but they need another potential superstar to strengthen Iraola’s position.

Liverpool in contract talks with World Cup superstar

Diomande is not Liverpool’s only top target currently in the World Cup. After such a disastrous campaign, Iraola and FSG have a lot of problems to solve this summer, and not just in attack.

Ibrahima Konate will play for Real Madrid next season, but Anfield sporting director Richard Hughes has already moved to sign Jeremy Jaquet from Rennes for £60m.

Secondly, there are also issues to be addressed in midfield. Alexis Mac Allister was far from the level of influence he once had under Arne Slott in 2025/26. He could be leaving, with Curtis Jones’ future at his boyhood club also a topic of discussion.

To solve this conundrum, Liverpool are considering a move for Moroccan sensation Ayyoub Bouadi, with reports from France revealing that Reds bosses have flown across the pond to discuss a possible move this summer.

The LOSC Lille prospect, who is just 18 years old, has attracted interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Tottenham, with his employers putting a £60m price tag on the Ligue 1 midfielder.

Why Bouadi could become Liverpool’s new superstar

Liverpool will hit the jackpot this summer by signing Bouadi, a young, all-action midfielder who will rival the likes of Ngmoha (and potentially Diomande) as the most exciting up-and-coming player under Iraola.

There’s a point to be made about overestimating emerging talent at the World Cup, but Liverpool content creator Asim Mahmoud said Bouadi was “going to be a superstar” and said the teenager had “a part of Declan Rice” about his game.

He would fit like a custom-made glove. Bouadi’s all-encompassing performance against the Selecao cemented him in the hearts of a wide range of football fans, but Bouadi could even replace Ngumoha as Liverpool’s most valuable teenager after his impressive efforts throughout the season at Lille.

Bouadi is elegant with the ball, completing 61% of his dribbles in France this year, averaging 4.7 wins and 5 recoveries per duel. Rather than sitting deep, he gathers into spaces and danger, turns and jumps, where he can create or find space to score himself.

Consider Bouadi a paragon of poise and technical command. Did I mention he’s 18? Yes, he presses his body against the defensive wall and makes his opponent sick. In the match against Brazil, he showed defensive discipline that belied his age and managed to escape from Brazil’s pressure, earning Houdini’s approval.

Sometimes you just know. And it is clear that Liverpool are closing in on a winner with Ngmoha. Moreover, it is clear that he has the ability to outperform his attacking peers next season, not just on Merseyside but across the continent.

Similarly, Bouadi is rapidly establishing himself as one of the most popular midfielders in the world, having spent several years backing up in France and putting in some spectacular performances on his homeland’s main stage and against confident and flashy opponents like Brazil.

Bouadi will definitely sign with a top European team. If not this year, then at some point in the near future. He is special, able to defend, attack and duel with perfect certainty and style.

Will he be able to surpass Ngmoha in the end? Quite possible. Already established on the biggest stage imaginable, the Moroccan superstar could pack the perfect punch that Liverpool’s machine has lacked in midfield for the past year.
