Liverpool’s search for a new wide forward has taken another interesting turn, with Chelsea winger Pedro Neto reportedly open to a surprise move to Anfield this summer.
X’s sources claim that Neto would be keen to join Liverpool if the opportunity became realistic.
The Portugal international is not the easiest player to sign at the moment, but the fact that he is reportedly open to a move gives the Reds something to think about.
Liverpool have been linked with a number of winger signings in recent weeks, but are still considering other attacking options.
Bradley Barcora, Matias Fernandes-Pardo and Said El Mara have been named, but Neto would be the more proven option in the Premier League.
Chelsea will sign Neto from Wolves in 2024, with Chelsea’s official website revealing that Neto has agreed a seven-year contract. This long-term deal means the Blues are under no pressure to sell cheap.
Neto is perfect for Anfield’s search for a winger
From Liverpool’s point of view, Neto is an attractive profile.
He is quick, direct, left-footed and can play on either flank. That flexibility is important because Liverpool need more variety in wide areas and cannot rely on one attacking solution.
Neto also knows the Premier League well from his time with Wolves and Chelsea.
According to Reuters, Chelsea paid around £54m to sign him, including add-ons, so a serious offer is likely to be required for him to sign with Liverpool.
The difficult part is obvious. Chelsea rarely like to sell important players to direct rivals unless it’s the right price.
Liverpool will need to test whether Neto is truly available or if he is just one name on a wider list of candidates.
Liverpool need to consider the deal carefully
If the numbers make sense, Neto would be a smart signing for Liverpool.
He has the speed, creativity and experience to make an immediate impact without needing years to develop.
However, Liverpool need to be careful not to overpay. Given Neto’s injury history and Chelsea’s likely asking price, this is a deal that requires due diligence.
If Neto is indeed open to this move, Liverpool should consider it.
But unless Chelsea are truly open to negotiations, the Reds may be better off keeping him as an exciting option rather than making him their sole focus.
