Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney helped Arsenal win the Premier League title despite the Gunners facing a daunting run of games and increasing pressure from Manchester City.

Rooney’s comments come at a crucial time in the 2025/26 season. Arsenal, who have been in the lead for most of the season, have been in a slump with just one win, three losses and one draw in their last five competitive games.

Two of their losses came in cup competitions, losing 2-1 to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals and losing 2-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final.

They suffered a crushing defeat in the league, losing 2-1 at home to Bournemouth.

Ahead of Sunday’s big clash between the title rivals, Rooney admitted in an interview with Amazon Prime Video Sports that although momentum appears to have shifted to Manchester City, he still backs Mikel Arteta’s side to get the job done.

he said:

“Yes, it’s obviously an important game for both clubs. I still think Arsenal will win. I think City obviously have to make every result perfect. Arsenal could have afforded a draw in that game too. But I still think Arsenal will get through it.”

There is a possibility that the title fight will end

The battle for the throne is getting tense. Arsenal are currently six points behind City, but have played one game more than Josep Guardiola’s side.

Of the two teams, Arsenal have the easier game, so if they can pick up at least one point against City they can hope to make it through.

Meanwhile, Man City have no choice but to win every game from now until the end of the season if they are to remain in the title race.
